【每日一歌】Mariah Carey - Oh Santa!

Mariah Carey与1994年发行的圣诞专辑《Merry Christmas》是史上最成功的圣诞专辑之一：它是1991以来第三畅销的节日专辑；继首次登上Billboard专辑榜并排名第三后，《Merry Christmas》曾在圣诞期间三次重新登榜。今年，Mariah Carey又推出了她的第二张节日专辑《Merry Christmas II You》。而《Oh Santa!》则是这张专辑的首发主打。


《Oh Santa!》复刻了《Merry Christmas》中大热单曲《All I Want for Christmas Is You》（这首单曲也是，经常在圣诞时期重登各国排行榜）的复古路线，一样的热热闹闹，一样胸大无脑的歌词（MC啊，你以为你多大了）……不过，圣诞吗，要的就是这种没有来由的欢乐气氛。


MV也沿袭了《All I Want for Christmas Is You》的风格，Mariah Carey在舞台上唱歌，一群人伴唱，不过为了凸显时代变换，把黑白改成了饱和度很高的早期彩色电视加上雪花点。镜头中MC还是装作她刚刚二十出头的样子，搔首弄姿，几乎只呈现侧脸。前面那个介绍真是……虽然MC你很成功，MC你很incredible，但你能不能低调点……那个拥有Aretha Franklin身躯的伴唱女人是为了遮掩你日益变大的水桶腰直径吗？


好了，不吐槽了。诚恳地说，这首歌还是不错的。但是单曲和专辑貌似都远不能重现当年的辉煌，毕竟时过境迁，这个时代已经不是MC叱咤风云的时代。

【每日一歌】Coldplay - Christmas Lights

圣诞将近，从今天起至年底，“每日一歌”将为您介绍一系列圣诞歌曲。

自从Coldplay凭借上一张专辑《Viva la Vida》红遍全球之后，似乎已经很久没有动静，今年12月1日他们终于推出了新的圣诞单曲《Christmas Lights》。


我对Coldplay的感觉可以说一直都是不温不火。他们的作品大都是气氛型的作品。所谓气氛型就是旋律、唱腔、编曲都不很抓人，不过听多了就会发现自己常常在不经意间哼唱其中的旋律——说白了，慢热的好歌。


《Christmas Lights》也是如此，总之它不是可以在短期内吸引我的歌，旋律有点拖沓了，总是在我认为该结束的地方多出来几小节。Chris Martin依旧还是那个带有磁性的gay一样的嗓子，浅吟低唱。


MV一个镜头拍到底，暖色的主色调加上五彩斑斓，童话舞台剧般的布景，很契合歌词的意境——Christmas Lights帮我实现愿望神马的都是童话里的事情。

Frank Sinatra大概是对流行音乐影响最大的音乐人之一了。他的《My Way》是欧美葬礼上最常播放的歌曲，他和Quincy Jones合作版本的《Fly Me to the Moon》被阿波罗10号和阿波罗11号演奏，他手捧包括Grammy理事特别奖、传奇奖和终身成就奖在内的11座金唱机，此外他还有一座奥斯卡最佳配角奖的小金人。他的女儿Nancy Sinatra也是知名歌手，曾经为第五部007系列电影《You Only Live Twice》（1967，中译《雷霆谷》，首部出现华裔邦女郎的007电影，顺便说一下，那个邦女郎就是周采芹……）演唱同名主题曲，与Frank Sinatra合作的冠军单曲《Something Stupid》后来被Robbie Williams和Nicole Kidman翻唱。


1998年，Frank Sinatra去世。


1999年，Céline Dion发行了她暂别歌坛的英文精选集《All the Way... A Decade of Song》。这本专辑在美国、英国、日本及欧洲多国的榜单上排名冠军位置，并在20世纪90年代畅销专辑榜上排名第26。专辑中收录了Celine Dion向Frank Sinatra致敬的歌曲《All the Way》。


Céline Dion版本的《All the Way》中，她与Frank Sinatra于1965年的录音对唱。作为20世纪90年代数一数二的女歌手，Céline Dion的唱功自不必质疑。她高亢的清亮的嗓音与Frank Sinatra深情款款的沉吟搭配的天衣无缝。但即便如此，这首歌的亮点还是在Frank Sinatra的唱段，他的那句“Taller than the tallest trees”宛如从天而降。闭上眼睛，仿佛就能看到Frank Sinatra面带微笑，淡定自若的演唱，平静之下却又饱含着感情。

说Timbaland是2006年最风光的制作人，也不为过，他打造的Justin Timberlake《FutureSex/LoveSounds》和Nelly Furtado《Loose》，一度在英国金榜和美国Billboard同时开花。2007年，他也推出了一本号称可以跟《Now That's What I Call Music!》系列媲美的、网罗了一众大牌歌手的个人专辑《Shock Value》，里面收录了那首唱烂大街小巷同时也唱红了OneRepublic的《Apologize》，同时专辑也顺带捧红了当时的新人歌手Keri Hilson。但是专辑的表现显然不及《Now》系列精选——《Now》可是几乎每次出手都要夺得Billboard头筹的传奇系列。

Timbaland的采样一向大胆，而且他格外偏爱亚洲的风味。这首出自《Shock Value》的《Bombay》中，他启用了英国籍印度女歌手Amar。不注意的话，你会误以为误放了一首印度歌手的单曲。歌曲的前半段一直都是Amar极具印度风味的演唱，直到后半部分Timbaland的声音出现，我才意识到原来这是美国流行乐。

Timbaland一向涎皮赖脸，他制作的歌曲中，“唉唉”地唱两声就署上自己的名字，比如《Apologize》，我看了MV之后才知道原来Timbaland真的唱了两声的，就那么唉唉两声竟然要作为Lead artist出现，OneRepublic是新人，就是受打压啊……此外他还有客串MV角色的恶习，比如Justin Timberlake的《Sexyback》《Cry Me A River》，后来我才知道那个丑陋的胖子就是Timbaland。《Bombay》中，Timbaland的唱段也不多，出彩的地方还是Amar的演唱。

【每日一歌】Christina Aguilera / Missy Elliot - Car Wash [Shark Tale Mix]

刚上大学的时候，到处找Christina Aguilera的MV，才知道还有好多她专辑中没有收录的歌。这首《Car Wash》就收录于梦工厂动画电影《Shark Tale》（《鲨鱼黑帮》，2004）的原声带。电影没看过，据说很烂——虽然有威尔·史密斯和安吉丽娜·茱莉等大牌助阵——常被拿来跟2003迪斯尼的《Finding Nemo》（《海底总动员》）对比，可是说是完败。


这首歌原本是Motown黑人Disco女星Rose Royce为同名电影演唱的歌曲，并夺得Billboard单曲榜冠军位置。2004年，正值Christina Aguilera发行《Stripped》（2002）和《Back to Basics》（2006）两张专辑的中间时刻，MV中她一头金色卷发和浓艳的装束，与后来她华丽的爵士名伶形象遥相呼应，可能这也暗示着她形象的转变，用业界评论的话来说，是“from grass to class”。


听了原唱才知道，原来当年的Disco有这么浓重的Blues味道。翻唱版《Car Wash》是首很欢喜的歌，当然，哪里有了Missy Elliot都很欢喜。Missy Elliot从长相到唱歌都很喜感。她们的翻唱版保留了原曲持续不断的拍掌声，又加上了Missy Elliot的rap段落，和Christina Aguilera引以为傲的华丽嗓音。后半段Christina Aguilera的演唱中有各种各样的炫技唱法，尤其那段花腔高音更是让人百听不厌。


MV也很有趣。《鲨鱼黑帮》最大的诟病之一就在于形象的设计，所有的动画人物都根据配音演员画成，于是就出现了史上最丑的威尔·史密斯的形象。我不知道Christina Aguilera和Missy Elliot的形象是否出现在电影里，但是MV确实为她们俩设计了两个形象。Christina Aguilera的不说基本看不出来；Missy Elliot那个一看就是她，尖尖的嘴，还有她拿话筒的动作。


这首歌还收录于歌迷为Christina Aguilera制作的B-Sides精选集《15 Songs for You》里面。

【每日一歌】Eels - I Need Some Sleep

《Shrek 2》中，Shrek趁着Fiona公主睡着，翻看她的日记时，伴着八音盒音色的音乐，一个沧桑的男声响起，接着，一个女人和他对唱——当我第一次看这部电影的时候，就是这么认为的。后来才知道，原来根本就没有那个女人，是Eels的主唱E的假声而已。


《Shrek》系列的原声带我都很喜欢，有许多不很知名（至少对于我这种菜鸟来说不是很知名）的歌手和乐队的作品。尤其是第一部，当然也可能是高中时期听得太多。之前我一直都不知道原来原声带可以像一张精选集一样收录这么多歌的——其实是没想到一部电影可以用这么多声乐作品作为配乐。Eels每一部都出现了（我指的是前三部，第四部的原声带我还没有听到），第二部的这一首，第一部的《My Beloved Monster》，第三部的《Losing Streak》都是相当不错的歌曲，不过估计还是《I Need Some Sleep》最受欢迎，最为人所知，因为那一段场景与音乐的搭配实在完美，太过深入人心了。


Eels，美国Indie乐队，作品常具Lo-Fi风格。主唱Mark Oliver Everett，常被称为E。Lo-Fi即Low fidelity，低音质。在Eels的音乐里，总是能听到失真的杂音，我一度以为这是上世纪六七十年代录音技术较差时候的作品。


《I Need Some Sleep》里，E虚虚实实的嗓音，不紧不慢地铺陈出一句句歌词，加上Lo-Fi效果，给人一种时空穿梭的感觉。整首歌安静得很，正好配合情节中静谧的夜里Shrek偷偷摸摸的动作和心情。八音盒伴奏和情节里的音乐盒呼应，音乐与场景衔接的毫无缝隙——值得说一下的是，音乐盒的音乐就是《Shrek》系列的主题音乐，第一部的原声带中收录了Dana Glover演绎的该主题音乐的Pop版本《It Is You (I Have Loved)》。

【每日一歌】Bebo Norman - Everything I Hoped You'd Be

其实，我是这几天才听说知道Bebo Norman这个人的。偶然地听了他一本专辑而已。上Wikipedia一查，才发现，他连独立的Discography页面都没有，尽管他1996年就出道，已经发行了10张专辑（包括精选）。简单介绍一下，Bebo Norman，美国福音歌手（注：福音音乐，也就是当代基督教音乐，一个音乐流派）、民谣歌手，唱了许多不知名的歌，得了许多不知名的奖——至少对中国人来说是这样。Bebo Norman可以算作本学期少数给我惊喜的新认识的歌手之一。


《Everything I Hoped You'd Be》是他2010年新专辑《Ocean》的开场单曲。电子乐铺展开的前奏，给人迷幻而开阔的感觉，紧凑的节奏让人觉得积极向上——大概所有福音歌除了歌颂就是催人上进的吧。这段前奏为整首歌加分不少，只听前奏真的想不到这是首folk风格的歌曲。Bebo Norman的声音略带沧桑感，很有磁性，又不会糙砺得让人不舒服。旋律也很不错。撇开歌手的宗教背景，当作一首音乐作品来欣赏，也算不错。

【每日一歌】Tori Amos - Pancake

最初听Tori Amos是因为孙燕姿翻唱了她的《Silent All These Years》，后来听她的歌是因为这个红头发的女权主义歌手的歌确实很好听。偶然在高中对面的音像店买到了一本已经拆封的《Scarlet's Walk》磁带，不知道这是不是中国内地引进的她的唯一一本专辑。它也是我高中期间听的最多的磁带之一。我从来没有关注过歌词，因为Tori Amos的歌词实在难懂，大学之后才知道《Scarlet's Walk》整本专辑原来是Tori Amos的化身红衣女郎Scarlet的美国之旅。专辑中最悦耳的歌，说实话，不是这首《Pancake》，而是首单《A Sorta Fairytale》（旋律赞，MV赞，编曲赞，唱腔赞，念字赞）。Tori Amos也使我喜欢上了Indie Pop和Piano Pop。


《Scarlet's Walk》是Tori Amos加盟Epic唱片的第一张专辑，大改以往的女权主义风格，转走文学路线（她的下一张专辑《The Beekeeper》也是同样的风格），歌词晦涩到以至于专门在官网上给出了具体的解释。


豆瓣上有人翻译了全文，这里摘录《Pancake》的一段：

Scarlet在向特拉华东北方向前行的路上遇到了一个崇拜弥赛亚的男人，和他在一起，Scarlet又一次迷惑了。如果在拉美革命遇到的那个男人是个行动派的话，现在这个男人只是个空谈派。他没有执著的宗教价值观。 

 其实我直到现在也没有完整的看过歌词（生词好多，压力好大），真正吸引我的还是独特的作曲和唱腔。我不知道Tori Amos是不是在用某种方言唱歌，她的元音总是很独特，假如不给我歌词我绝对想不到她在唱的是哪个词。


这首歌的旋律平铺直叙，甚至连高潮也只是简单的声调一挑。Tori Amos用慵懒、颓废而不屑的声音，不紧不慢地，时而陈述，时而小小地嘶吼——与其说嘶吼，还不如说就是出气过强。到了最后，这嘶哑的长音更加变本加厉。

【每日一歌】Barbra Streisand - Smile

早在我开始听流行音乐之前，就听说过了这个人。记得小学和初中的时候，CCTV6的节目预告，经常有，什么什么电影，芭芭拉·史翠珊主演。高三的时候，买到了这本Barbra Streisand的第60张专辑《The Movie Album》（好像还挺贵的，18块钱，我记得是新索的磁带）。


这张专辑里面Barbra Streisand翻唱了许多电影的主题曲，包括《Moon River》和《Calling You》等等。这首《Smile》选自Charlie Chaplin著名的电影《Modern Times》(1936)并由其亲自作曲，1954年被填词，之后被包括Michael Jackson、Nat King Cole、Michael Bolton、Judy Garland、Diana Ross、Eric Clapton、Michael Bublé、Tony Bennett、Josh Groban、Westlife在内的诸多艺人翻唱。


Barbra Streisand在她的专辑内页中写道，这首歌献给她的宠物狗——她的宠物狗在她灌录这首歌两天前被施以安乐死。因此，这首歌从前奏开始就充满了一种忧伤的气氛。Barbra Streisand作为一个歌手，嗓音并不出众，她也非创作型歌手，但是作为一个演员，她的音乐十分富含感情。而且每次看到她在演唱会中都可以泰然自若，风度翩翩，这也可能是她几十年来屹立不倒，被誉为美国传统流行界的常青树的原因吧。


此外，这首歌还有Barbra Streisand和Tony Bennett的版本，选自Tony Bennett这位Jazz界元老级盲人歌手的专辑《Duets: An American Classic》。
